E ate her first veggie - peas - on July 9.
I just steamed/boiled them, then blended them to a paste. I added water reserved from cooking to make the desired thickness.
Poured into ice cube trays...
The puree is perfectly portioned into meal-size blocks for future use.
The most important part: What did the taste-tester think?
Chillaxin'...watching me cook.
No idea what was coming next.
No idea what was coming next.
What IS that?!
More? No thanks!
(Sweet potatoes have gone over much better.)
What's your least favorite food?
pasta. and onions.
ReplyDeleteWhen my oldest was a baby, his favorite foods were sweet potatos, carrots, and peaches. In fact, he loved them so much, his skin took on a funny orange tint. What made it funnier was his already bright orange hair. I varied his diet and he returned to that fantastic baby pink color. I never did get him to eat that baby oatmeal/rice cereal. He preferred real 'big people' food. So I bought a cheap baby food grinder and he ate exactly what we ate, just pureed. Good luck with Little E. One of my favorite things of my kids being little was discovering their likes and dislikes :)
ReplyDeleteEwww...peas are pretty bad. Never have liked them so I'm not sure I'll ever be able to give them to little J once he is old enough for solids. Love the make-your-own-baby-food idea though! Definitely going to try this.
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly how we made the boys baby food too, the only thing we bought was when they started to eat meat. I think more families should do this, when they eat a bit more you just pop out another cube. Babies seem to like the sweeter veggies and do real well with fruit. Love Grandma O.
