Fourteen Minutes.

Unintentional date night in. While looking for the newest episode of Modern Family, we found the CMAs. We watched approximately two totally inappropriate minutes of gross dancing, and that was the end of that.

So we did what any normal parents would do while their kid is in bed: Cranked up my newly created playlist, "Songs That Don't Get Old," and just went crazy.  What started out as a romantic slow dance in the living room quickly turned to a little friendly competition. Subtle cues from the two-minute CMA fiasco may or may not have made an appearance in our kitchen.

Perhaps the term "date night" is a bit of a misnomer. It wasn't so much quality time together as it was each person focusing on their own moves so as to one-up the other.

Many times, this meant my wife screaming, "I have been doing this thing with my arms for five minutes! Just. Look." But I couldn't, because I was in the middle of a rodeo move on a kitchen stool, and I wasn't about to be interrupted.

Not to be outdone, she looked at the clock at 8:46 and declared, "I will not move at all except using dance moves until 9:00." Her eyes were apparently bigger than her belly-dance, because the next thing out of her mouth was a collection of gasps, and then, "It's only been 4 minutes?"

She kept her promise and shimmied the whole 840 seconds. We will definitely be filling our evenings with dance-offs more often.

videos = sunshine for you.

We stumbled across a few amazing music videos today.
They're old(er), so we're late to the party.
But it's still a party.
Don't be a snob - join us anyway.

(The original video for this one is also wonderful.)

Happy weekending!

um ba ba be.

If you've known me for more than 2 minutes, you're probably aware that this is one of my favorite, favorite songs. So much my favorite that my sweet husband (and friends) learned and performed it (wonderfully) last summer. It basically made my 2010.

Today, however, it's a different kind of pressure. I'm sick. Thumbs down. Sinuses + Throat = Ouch.
I'm writing this from my bed, where I've been since about 5:45 and am likely to remain until
6:30 tomorrow morning.

What kind of nerd gets a cold in July?!
First day without Coke/Cherry Coke, too. Perhaps this is God's way of telling me something...?
Anyway. This song is appropriate for so many occasions!
The only cure for a nasty cold is some Queen/Bowie. Shwew.

What's your favorite cheer-me-up song?

Want It Wednesday.

(Inspired by Kari.)

1. I would wear the heck out of this.

 2. I'd love to have these in several colors, but if I had to choose just one pair, I'd pick these:

 3. This song - on a CD twenty times so as not to wear out my rewind button.

3. The ability to not be obsessed with item 3.

4. This. In a petite frame to put on my desk.
